let’s get started.

“The tiny seed knew that in order to grow, it needed to be dropped in dirt, covered in darkness, struggle to reach the light.”

FAQs and Definitions

What does Neuro-inclusive mean?

Neuro-inclusion is the practice of recognizing and embracing the diversity of brain types, or neurodiversity, in various settings, such as education, workplaces, and communities. It promotes equal opportunities, respect, and understanding for individuals with neurological differences, and encourages an environment that celebrates neurodiversity.

Why don’t you accept insurance?

Long story short, insurance = lack of confidentiality, more restriction, less autonomy for the therapist and client to create a treatment plan that fits an individual’s needs.

Insurance does not guarantee coverage, and it does not secure financial pay out to your clinician. Mental health IS health, but battling rules and extra layers between insurance providers and clinicians take away time for your clinician to do the real work.

Electing to accept private pay options allows us to have the schedule and freedom to provide our best work, lead by example by upholding our boundaries and be selective on the amount of clients we have the capacity to see week to week.

What is Art Therapy?

According to the American Art Therapy Association, "Art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art-making to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem, and self-awareness, and achieve insight."

Benefits of Art Therapy:

For those who are artistically inclined may find joy and inner peace by being able to connect with themselves on a deeper level with a trained clinician. In other cases, it has created a unique opportunity for personal bonding and self-reflection while exploring their creative sides.

Other possible outcomes include:

  • improved ability to imagine and think symbolically

  • improved mindfulness and stress-regulation

  • improved ability to manage distress tolerance, sensory experiences and problem solving skills

  • improved fine motor skills/mind & body connection

Why Use Art Therapy for Neurodivergent individuals?

Art therapy offers an opportunity for therapists to work one-on-one with individuals to build a wide range of skills in a manner which may be more comfortable (and thus more effective) than spoken language.

How Art Therapy Is Different From Art Classes:

Art therapy is a tool for helping clients to access their emotions. By contrast, art classes are intended to provide students with instruction on how to achieve specific artistic effects or goals. While art classes may be appropriate for learning, they are not a substitute for art therapy.
